Foot update

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Not a stress fracture after all. The MRI showed some swelling/fluid in the area and it’s probably the beginnings of arthritis, which is what I had been assuming all along. I’m currently trying a low dose pain medication and will be getting orthotics for my shoes again. I had them years ago when I first messed up my foot, but they’re certainly not designed to last for seven or eight years.

Continuing the trend of nothing to report

The boys are at Cub Camp each afternoon this week. Yesterday I intentionally stayed home, expecting to get a call from Dave asking me to bring up whatever they’d forgotten to pack. I did get a call about bringing up a camp chair, but Dave ultimately decided he’d go without one for the day and bring it for the rest of the week instead.

Today I went in to have my foot looked at. I seriously messed it up about 8 years ago, and for the past couple of months, the side that originally had a hairline fracture has been a bit tender. Not enough to consider medication, but enough to make me aware of it. Given the length of time for the latest round of symptoms, and the fact that I found myself periodically altering my stride to accommodate it, I thought I’d better get it looked at.

X-rays today, MRI tomorrow, followup appointment on Friday. It looks as if I may have a stress fracture, but we’ll see what the test results actually show. There goes the rest of this week!

Lots going on…just not knitting or sewing

This is the first full week of summer vacation, and things are busy already. The boys started swimming lessons on Monday, and we pretty much have the entire summer mapped out in terms of activities for them.

Sunday afternoon was spent making totems for Cub Camp next week for Michael’s group. Unfortunately, most of the parents and kids didn’t show up, so it was Dave, another mother, and myself, along with the sometimes help of the three boys to put them together. I still have to add a piece of fabric off the backs of the hats so they have shade and a place to attach all their totems for trading this year.

I’ve also made two batches of blackberry/wild cherry jelly, put up 3 pints of pickled okra, 4 quarts of dill pickles, and I’m working on lime pickles today.

I have several friends who have expressed an interest in making pickles as well, so I wanted to get my own done and out of the way. Then I’ll send an email out to start coordinating other people’s schedules.

In addition, one of the boys’ friends has been staying here for the week. His mom is doing some inservices, and Dad has a lawn service business so he’s fairly busy at this time of year. I took all three boys to the Farmer’s Market on Monday (which is why we’re doing pickles and okra this week!), and then took all four (friend’s big brother came along yesterday afternoon) to see the latest Shrek movie. We’ll be staying here at home today while I work on the pickles. I have some tentative plans for them for Thursday. Friday I’ll be at an inservice, but his mother will be home again by then. We’re debating whether Daniel and Michael will go over there Friday or if Dave will be working from home.
